Chief Scientist – Diagnostic Genomics.

Our client has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Supervisor or Lab Manager to join their fast paced Diagnostic Genomics laboratory.
This will be a Full-time, Temporary role for 10 months with possibility of extension and/or permanency.
This role will consist of managing and leading the Diagnostic Genomics Laboratory, a multi-disciplinary lab performing conventional cytogenetics, FISH, SNP Microarray, and molecular genetic techniques (including NGS) for the investigation of constitutional and somatic abnormalities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Diagnostic Genomics Department. Plan and co-ordinate the resources and work of the laboratory, supervise some of the more complex investigations, in collaboration with the Clinical Director.
• Manage and control the staffing resources of the department. Develop and implement training programs for staff and coordinate the recruitment of staff.
• Manage the development and introduction of new Genomic techniques and review and modify existing methods.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and guidelines.
• Responsible for the maintenance of laboratory equipment and the efficient use of laboratory supplies.
• Implement operational policies and procedures.
• Provide professional scientific advice to clinicians regarding the provision and interpretation of tests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Tertiary qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science or other relevant science related field.

EXPERIENCE:
ESSENTIAL:

• Minimum three years’ experience working in a supervisory role in a Diagnostic Laboratory.

DESIRABLE:

• Experience as a technical assessor for NATA.
• Subject matter expert experience in Pathology Laboratory Information Systems.
