Position Profile: The Consultant Psychiatrist – Ward 2K works with the multidisciplinary Service Team to provide assessment and specialist psychiatric services for voluntary acute patients requiring specialist mental health care between the ages of 18 to 65. Provides leadership, orientation, training, supervision and education, where relevant, for doctors in training, Health Service Medical Practitioners and other health workers. In collaboration with the Medical Co-Director, Clinical Leads and other Consultants, works to achieve national, state and EMHS performance standards and targets. Works within the scope of clinical practice as defined and recommended by the EMHS Area Medical Credentialing Committee.
Ward 2K is a 14 bed newly furbished unit that houses voluntary patients that are considered to be low risk but require care in a health care setting. The consultant is well supported by at least two junior doctors, with the option of having a psychiatry trainee. There are opportunities available for adjunct academic roles with universities and Peer support available from the larger Mental Health Services.
Area Profile: East Metropolitan Health Service provides a comprehensive range of public mental health services for ages 16 years and above, through community mental health services and hospitals. EMHS has two major mental health divisions; Royal Perth Bentley Group and Armadale Health Services catering mental health services for different suburbs under East Metropolitan areas.
The Royal Perth Bentley Group Mental Health Division is the largest Mental Health Service within the East Metropolitan Health Service, across a diverse geographical area. Mental Health Division delivers care through 128 mental health beds, which are across youth, adult, rehabilitation and older adult inpatient settings.
Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is Perth’s inner city, tertiary hospital. RPH has a tertiary-level Emergency Department, and comprehensive mental health consultation liaison service to the general and surgical wards. In regard to inpatient services, a Mental Health Emergency Centre (MHEC) was commissioned in 2019 and a Mental Health Unit consisting of a 12 bed purpose-built facility to provide treatment to health consumers with acute and complex mental illness needs was established in 2022. RPH is a premier teaching hospital and contributes to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.
Bentley Health Service (BHS) is 11km from the Perth CBD and forms part of the Royal Perth Bentley Group. BHS provides quality healthcare, specialising in the delivery of mental health care, aged care services, obstetrics, and rehabilitation.
The Mental Health Division has 3 community services across Bentley, City East and Midland to meet the needs of patients that require specialist mental health care to the adult and older adult population.
The Mental Health Division also has several state-wide services that include the State Aboriginal Mental Health Service (SAMHS), Mobile Community Outreach Team (MCOT) and Mental Health Emergency Response Line (MHERL).
