Head of HSQE
Salary: £60k – £75k + £6420 car allowance
Location: Aston (with UK coverage as required)
Reporting To: Chief Executive Officer
About the Role:
We are seeking a Head of HSQE to lead our Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) services as a Principal Contractor in a 24/7/365 sector. This is a critical leadership role focused on ensuring safety standards across multiple projects and sites, particularly within the rail industry. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, in-depth knowledge of industry regulations, and the ability to implement effective safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Management
* Implement and oversee HSQE practices across the business.
* Develop safety processes and procedures for specialist services.
* Monitor fatigue management and working hours for compliance.
* Lead monthly safety reviews and coordinate team safety briefings.
* Conduct investigations and site inspections.
* Maintain HSQE project documentation.
2. Compliance and Audits
* Ensure compliance with UK regulations and client standards.
* Conduct internal and external audits (RISQS, ISO, client audits).
* Perform site safety tours and manage regulatory requirements.
* Drive continuous improvement using the RM3 model.
3. Client & Subcontractor Management
* Act as the primary contact for regulatory bodies (ORR, HSE).
* Advise project teams on health & safety regulations.
* Support bid and commercial teams in tenders and proposals.
* Ensure subcontractors adhere to company policies and reporting requirements.
4. Safety Initiatives & Technology
* Develop and lead behavioural safety programs.
* Promote AI-driven safety solutions and mobile applications.
* Conduct lessons-learned sessions with clients and contractors.
5. Leadership & Team Development
* Manage and mentor the HSQE team.
* Set SMART objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
* Oversee training, inductions, and competency development.
* Support out-of-hours team coverage.
Person Specification:Essential Qualifications & Skills:
* NEBOSH Diploma (or NVQ 5/6 equivalent).
* CMIOSH or Grad IOSH accreditation.
* Experience with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 standards.
* Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience in Principal Contractor Licence requirements.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills:
* NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management.
* Lead/Internal Auditor certification.
* PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification.
