Experienced Mental Health Social Worker

Up to £32 per hour

The London Borough of Newham is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mental Health Social Worker to join our highly-regarded team.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday. We offer a flexible hybrid model, with the expectation to work from our Newham office base twice per week to support team cohesion, supervision, and complex duty activities.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Mental Health Social Worker in Newham, you will manage a varied caseload, playing a critical role in supporting individuals with complex mental health needs. Your duties will be diverse and include:

* Statutory Assessments: Completing high-quality, person-centred Care Act Assessments to determine eligibility for support, and developing comprehensive care and support plans.

* Mental Capacity and Best Interests: Conducting robust Capacity Assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005, and undertaking complex best interests decisions and assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) framework.

* Safeguarding Adults: Leading on Safeguarding inquiries, ensuring the protection of vulnerable adults from abuse and neglect, and working collaboratively with partner agencies.

* Legal Processes: Preparing and presenting reports for the Mental Health Tribunals and Court of Protection hearings.

* Hospital Discharge Facilitation: Working closely with health colleagues to plan and facilitate timely and safe hospital discharge for service users under Section 117 of the Mental Health Act, ensuring a smooth transition back into the community.

* Integrated Working: Contributing to multi-disciplinary team meetings (MDTs) with health professionals (NHS) to provide social care expertise and ensure holistic care planning.

What We Are Looking For:

* Social Work England (SWE) registration.

* A recognised Social Work qualification.

* Significant post-qualifying experience in a Mental Health Social Work setting.

* A thorough and demonstrable working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983, the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005, and the Care Act 2014.

* Excellent communication, assessment, and risk management skills.

* The ability to work autonomously and manage a complex, demanding caseload.
