Surgical First Assistant – Wimbledon, London
Location: Wimbledon, London
Contract: Ad-hoc shifts available periodically
Pay Rates:
* Standard: £44.57 per hour
* Saturday & Sunday: £46.61 per hour
* Bank Holidays: £47.00 per hour
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Surgical First Assistant to join a leading healthcare facility in Wimbledon, London. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional to work flexible shifts in a dynamic surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide direct assistance to surgeons during procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care.
* Support with instrument handling, tissue retraction, and haemostasis as required.
* Ensure aseptic techniques are maintained throughout procedures.
* Assist in preparing the operating theatre, ensuring all equipment and surgical instruments are correctly set up.
* Monitor patient condition intraoperatively, reporting any concerns to the surgical team.
* Participate in post-operative care, including wound dressing and patient monitoring.
* Work closely with anaesthetists, theatre nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless surgical procedures.
* Adhere to infection control, health & safety, and clinical governance standards.
Requirements:
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with valid registration.
* Recognised Surgical First Assistant qualification.
* Experience working in theatres as a Surgical First Assistant.
* Strong understanding of perioperative care and theatre protocols.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
